We love our pets, and want to do what is best for them.  If you’re like me, you want to satisfy your four –legged friend’s whining when they join you at the dinner table. Check out these 10 people foods that are safe and healthy for man’s best friend, so you can give your dog a “human” treat.

  • Peanut Butter

Many dogs love peanut butter, and it can actually be a healthy treat for Fido. Raw, unsalted peanut butter is high in healthy fats and vitamins.

  • Cooked meats

Chicken and salmon are a great source of protein for dogs, and can be a healthy substitute for dog food if you run out.  Salmon can help your dog’s coat and skin stay shiny and health.

  • Watermelon

Watermelon’s high water content can help keep your dog hydrated during the hot summer days. Just make sure they don’t eat the seeds or the rind!

  • Beets

Beets are chock full of vitamins, and can cleanse and detoxify your dog’s body. Additionally, they play an essential role in liver health.

  • Spinach

We humans know that spinach is a superfood, and luckily, your dog can enjoy all the same health benefits we get!

  • Yogurt

Yogurt is high in calcium and protein, as well as full of active bacteria that help with digestion and gas. Make sure you choose a yogurt that doesn’t contain any sweeteners.

Dogs are able to easily digest this high protein snack, and can even eat the shells. But limit the yoke (or yellow part) intake to once a week!

Oatmeal is especially good for older dogs with digestive issues, because of its high fiber content.

Slice up some apples to clean your dog’s teeth and freshen their breath! Check for seeds to avoid choking.
