Forget chemical treatments! Make your doggos free from fleas and mites with these effective natural remedies instead. Dogs hold a very special place in our hearts. So why expose them to the harsh chemicals of flea and mite prevention products available in the market? They can prove hazardous to the health of your dog as sometimes they pose a risk of your dog developing a toxic skin reaction.

When fleas strike

Fleas are persistent and supremely annoying for your dear dog. Their bite triggers itching and in some cases, the itching can turn extreme and lead to inflammation, secondary skin infections, and hair loss. You can save your dog from turning into a flea bag with some simple natural treatments.

For instance, a simple saltwater bath will save the day for your dog and yourself. Just add a generous amount of salt to the bathing water and dissolve it completely. Then bathe your pet with this water and voila! It will kill all the fleas and their eggs as well.

How to make sure that the fleas don’t return

Simply add a few drops of lavender or eucalyptus essential oil to one cup of water in a spray bottle. And there you have it—an all-natural and safe flea-repellent. Spray it over your dog while carefully avoiding their face and ears. You can rub a cotton ball in this mixture and use it rub it around the area behind their ears. Fleas avoid the smell of these essential oils and hence they won’t come near your dog.

Another way is to water with freshly squeezed lemon or orange juice in it. You can apply this mixture directly with the help of a sponge or dip your pet’s comb in it and then brush the coat with it. This works wonders as well because fleas are also known to stay away from citrus scents.

Ear mites

These are generally a form of mild parasitic infection. It can occur at any age and is known for being highly contagious. These mites can also spread to the other parts of the body. Some of the common types of symptoms include itching, excessive scratching, frequent shaking of the head, and thick red-brown or black crusts. Confirm with your vet first and then try this simple and effective household remedy. Dissolve one teaspoon of baking soda in one cup of warm water. Soak a cotton ball in this mixture and rub clean the pet’s ears with it every day until your pet stops scratching.

You also need to make sure that their beds and blankets are free from fleas and mites to keep them healthy. You can use the solutions mentioned above to wipe clean their bedding or invest in pet beds made with 100% copper. Such beddings ensure that your pet sleeps cocooned in a safe cover, as copper is known for its anti-microbial and anti-odor properties. It destroys 99.9% of infection and odor causing bacteria, fungi and viruses. Besides, these beds and blankets are highly durable as well.
